Katherine’s passion for horses began in childhood, fueling a journey marked by dedication, perseverance, and countless hours of training.

Her deep connection to the Arabian breed eventually introduced her to the sport of dressage, where she found her true calling.

As a young girl, Katherine dreamed of competing in the Olympic Games on horseback. As a young woman, she committed to turning that dream into reality, embarking on a long and challenging road as a dressage rider. With countless milestones yet to achieve, she remains focused on her unwavering pursuit of excellence.

As a third-generation horsewoman, Katherine dedicates herself to preserving classic horsemanship while exploring new techniques.

Honoring a 70 Year Tradition

A Rich History

Katherine is the daughter of Margaret West-Rich, a seasoned international judge and trainer who has led Green Acres Ranch to become a renowned facility for all breeds, with a particular focus on Arabian horses. Katherine's brother, Roy Rich, is an accomplished horseman specializing in reined cow and cutting horses with numerous world titles and championships to his name. Together, they continue a family legacy of excellence in the equestrian world​.


Following in her mother’s footsteps, Katherine earned her recorded ("r") Arabian judge’s card from USEF in 2011 followed by her registered "R" card in 2015. She is also a USDF "L" Program participant further establishing her as a trusted expert in her field.

In addition to her equestrian expertise, Katherine brings a strong academic foundation to her work. Her Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration and Management from the University of Redlands equips her with the skills and expertise to effectively manage and grow her horse training and performance business.


With over 70 years of family involvement in breeding, showing, and training, Katherine's approach to horsemanship is deeply rooted in tradition making her a key figure in preserving and advancing her family’s contributions to the horse industry.

In 2012, Katherine and her husband, Tyler Elzig, founded KRE Show Horses. Their business is based at the prestigious Green Acres Ranch, Inc., established in 1957 by Katherine's grandfather, Dr. Harold West.
